I returned to Friday Mountain this summer. A landmark in the Texas Hill Country, it was the name of the camp my brother and I attended every July between 1959 and 1963. In this summer of closed camps, it offered a day trip that not only addressed my Covid cabin fever but also promised an opportunity for a fresh look at some Texas back pages in this cultural moment.
