As spring makes a warm comeback to Terrace, so does the Skeena Valley Farmers Market.
On May 4, dozens of vendors set up their booths on Market Street to launch off the first day of the Farmers Market season.
“It was a really great turnout today, the weather helps for sure,” says Margo Peill, farmers market manager. “Energy was high here… the best part about this is seeing people you haven’t seen [all winter] and many have been waiting for all the products that we have at the market.”
She says there’s a lot more local produce being sold this year, which lots of people are excited about as locally-sourced food becomes more of a conversation.
“Usually, it’s a slower time for produce now. But we’re seeing people get pretty creative with some of the things… I’ve noticed we have micro greens and fiddleheads,” says Peill. “It’s really awesome to add things to what people can buy locally in terms of food and produce.”
Live music by local band Dearly Departed also played in the main square as some sat to enjoy the tunes and others shopped.
Each week, different musicians will be featured and the public can check out the Skeena Valley Farmers Market Facebook page to see who will be performing. Peill adds that if anyone is interested in playing on stage, there are still slots available.
The Skeena Valley Farmers Market will take place every Saturday until the end of October.
